Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Zoom?
A: Zoom is a bleaching process that lightens discoloration of enamel and dentin. It does NOT whiten crowns, veneers, or bridges.

Q: How long do the results last?
A: By following some simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before.

braces that are so often associated with adolescence.

Invisalign® braces are virtually invisible can be a great comfort. If you would like to learn more about this truly revolutionary orthodontic treatment call today to schedule your
Invisalign® consultation.
What Is Invisalign®?
You may be wondering what, exactly, we mean by "clear braces."
Invisalign® does not use brackets and wires as traditional braces do. Instead, through
Invisalign® treatment at our Manorville practice, Dr. Felton will fit you with a series of clear plastic aligners.
Invisalign® aligners look much like clear retainers that are form fitted to your teeth. The result is a virtually undetectable orthodontic treatment that is remarkably discreet.
Aligners should be worn 24 hours a day, except during meals and brushing and flossing. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks, and our staff will be sure to schedule all necessary follow–up visits in order to check your progress.
Invisalign® braces achieve results in about the same amount of time as traditional braces, with one important benefit: You will not have to wear metallic braces during that time.

For adults and teenagers
ClearCorrect is one of the clearest solutions available. So, if you're embarrassed about people noticing, or looking unprofessional at work, you'll feel comfortable once you see how unnoticeable your aligners are—you may even be surprised at how quickly you forget you're wearing them
Veneers
What Is a Dental Veneer?
A dental veneer is a thin sheet of material, typically porcelain, which is placed on the front surface of a tooth. Porcelain is translucent and reflects light much like natural tooth enamel. The result is an incredibly naturally–looking, cosmetically appealing dental restoration unlike virtually any other.
How are LUMINEERS different from traditional veneers?
|
LUMINEERS are unique in that they are ultra–thin (approximately 0.2 mm) and highly translucent, allowing them to replicate the natural appearance of enamel. While traditional veneers are much thicker, requiring the grinding down of your original tooth structure, LUMINEERS are so thin that little to no tooth reduction is necessary.
|
|
Additionally, the durability of
LUMINEERS allows them to resist wear and remain resilient to last over 20 years.
Implants
If you are missing one or more teeth, a dental implant can help you enjoy the most durable, natural looking and feeling replacement possible. Dental implants are titanium posts that are surgically placed in the jawbone, where they permanently fuse with the surrounding tissue. Each implant acts as an anchor for a custom–fabricated replacement tooth. With dental implants you can fully restore form and function to your smiled. Dr. Greg Felton performs all aspects of the dental implant procedure, from the surgical placement of the implant to the fabrication of the replacement teeth. As always, you can count on us to be your one–stop resource for all your smile restoration needs.
If you would like to learn more about implant dentistry, we can help. Prevention
Our preventive program is a cooperative effort by the patient, Dr.Felton, and our fantastic dental hygienists to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions.
Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet. It is continued in our dental office by the efforts of Dr.Felton and dental hygienist to promote, restore, and maintain your oral health.
Prevention also includes regular dental exams, cleanings, and x–rays. Sealants and fluoride are also great preventive treatments that help protect the teeth.
Prevention helps avoid serious and costly dental problems and is the key to having a
healthy, confident, beautiful smile.
Dental Exam
A comprehensive dental exam will be performed by your dentist at your initial dental visit. At regular check–up exams, your dentist and hygienist will include the following:
| • |
Examination of diagnostic x–rays (radiographs): Essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss. X–rays also help determine tooth and root positions. |
| • |
Oral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer. |
| • |
Gum disease evaluation: Check the gums and bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease. |
| • |
Examination of tooth decay: All tooth surfaces will be checked for decay with special dental instruments. |
| • |
Examination of existing restorations: Check current fillings, crowns, etc. |
Professional Dental Cleaning
Professional dental cleanings (dental prophylaxis) are usually performed by Registered Dental Hygienists. Your cleaning appointment will include a dental exam and the following:
| • |
Removal of calculus (tartar): Calculus is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for sometime and is now firmly attached to the tooth surface. Calculus forms above and below the gum line, and can only be removed with special dental instruments. |
| • |
Removal of plaque: Plaque is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins (poisons) that inflame the gums. This inflammation is the start of periodontal disease! |
| • |
Teeth polishing: Remove stain and plaque that is not otherwise removed during tooth brushing and scaling. |
Restorations
It's great news that the incidence of tooth decay has significantly diminished over the years due to the use of fluorides and an increase in patient awareness. However, teeth are still susceptible to decay, infection, and breakage and sometimes need to be restored back to health. Through improved techniques and modern technology, we are now able to offer more options for restoring a tooth back to its normal shape, appearance and function.
Should your teeth ever require a restorative treatment, you can rest assured knowing we will always discuss with you the available options, and recommend what we believe to be the most comfortable and least invasive treatment. Providing you with excellent care is our number one priority when creating your beautiful smile.
Reasons for restorative dentistry:
| • |
Enhance your smile |
| • |
Fill in unattractive spaces between teeth |
| • |
Improve or correct an improper bite |
| • |
Prevent the loss of a tooth |
| • |
Relieve dental pain |
| • |
Repair damaged and decayed teeth |
| • |
Replace missing teeth |
| • |
Replace old, unattractive dental treatments |
| • |
Restore normal eating and chewing |
Types of Restorations:
Amalgam Fillings | Composite Fillings | Crowns (Caps) | Dental Implants | Fixed Bridges | Root Canal Therapy
Remember to give your teeth the attention they need today!
Composite Fillings
A composite (tooth colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling.
There are many types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Dr. Felton can discuss the best options for restoring your teeth. Composite fillings, along with silver amalgam fillings, are the most widely used today. Because composite fillings are tooth colored, they can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth, and are more aesthetically suited for use in front teeth or the more visible areas of the teeth.
As with most dental restorations, composite fillings are not permanent and may someday have to be replaced. They are very durable, and will last many years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
Reasons for composite fillings:
| • |
Chipped teeth |
| • |
Closing space between two teeth |
| • |
Cracked or broken teeth |
| • |
Decayed teeth |
| • |
Worn teeth |
Crowns (Caps)
A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain (tooth colored crown) are the most popular. They are highly durable and will last many years, but like most dental restorations, they may eventually need to be replaced. Porcelain crowns are made to match the shape, size, and color or your teeth giving you a natural, long–lasting beautiful smile.
Reasons for crowns:
| • |
Broken or Fractured Teeth |
| • |
Cosmetic Enhancement |
| • |
Decayed Teeth |
| • |
Fractured Fillings |
| • |
Large Fillings |
| • |
Tooth has a Root Canal |
Fixed Bridges
A dental bridge is a fixed (non–removable) appliance and is an excellent way to replace missing teeth.
There are several types of bridges. You and Dr. Felton will discuss the best options for your particular case. The “traditional bridge” is the most popular type and is usually made of porcelain fused to metal. This type of bridge consists to two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth), filling the gap created by one or more missing teeth.
Dental bridges are highly durable and will last many years, however they may need replacement or need to be re–cemented due to normal wear.
Reasons for a fixed bridge:
| • |
Fill space of missing teeth |
| • |
Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position |
| • |
Restore chewing and speaking ability |
| • |
Restore your smile |
| • |
Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance |
Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. In order to save the tooth, the pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth), nerves, bacteria, and any decay are removed and the resulting space is filled with special, medicated, dental materials, which restore the tooth to its full function.
Having a root canal done on a tooth is the treatment of choice to save a tooth that otherwise would die and have to be removed. Many patients believe that removing a tooth that has problems is the solution, but what is not realized is that extracting (pulling) a tooth will ultimately be more costly and cause significant problems for adjacent teeth.
Root canal treatment is highly successful and usually lasts a lifetime, although on occasion, a tooth will have to be retreated due to new infections.
Signs and symptoms for possible root canal therapy:
| • |
An abscess (or pimple) on the gums |
| • |
Sensitivity to hot and cold |
| • |
Severe toothache pain |
| • |
Swelling and/or tenderness |
| • |
Sometimes no symptoms are present |
Reasons for root canal therapy:
| • |
Decay has reached the tooth pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth) |
| • |
Infection or abscess have developed inside the tooth or at the root tip |
| • |
Injury or trauma to the tooth |
