Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
What is Zoom?
A:
Zoom is a bleaching process that lightens discoloration of enamel and dentin. It does NOT whiten crowns, veneers, or bridges.
Q:
Is whitening safe?
A:
Yes. Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. However, as with any tooth whitening product, Zoom! is not recommended for children under 13 years old and pregnant or lactating women.
Q:
How long do the results last?
A:
By following some simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before.
To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing twice daily and occasionally using the touch-up kits night or day white gel. These professional formula kits will keep your teeth their brightest.
Crowns and Bridges
As we get a little older our teeth begin to change and are prone to decay. There are many possible reasons for this change which can include bruxism (teeth grinding), general decay, cracked filling, root canals, and many others. If your tooth cannot be repaired with a filling material, we may recommend that the best viable option to save the tooth is a full crown. We will make the determination as to which type of crown is the most appropriate for your situation. These options include a full porcelain crown or a porcelain fused to metal crown.
Bridges
A bridge is one of the few options that you have when deciding how to deal with a missing tooth or teeth. The replacement of these missing teeth is necessary in order to maintain the proper mouth functions. Tooth loss can affect the way you eat, speak, and the alignment of other teeth in your mouth. A dental bridge attaches to the natural teeth on either side of the space. This bridge acts as your new teeth, closing the space and restoring your smile. Bridges are often constructed of gold or metal foundations with porcelain fused to the foundation. This ensures that the bridge will support the normal functions of the mouth.
Invisalign
Invisalign
makes it easy to straighten your teeth without bands, brackets, or wires. Invisalign is virtually invisible when you are wearing them. By using a series of clear, removable aligners, invisalign straightens your teeth right befroe your eyes. Change them about every two weeks and your teeth will move toward the smile you have always wanted.
Bonding-White Fillings
A bonding is a composite resin that is used as an alternative to amalgams. Bonding can be used on teeth that are decaying, cracked, or stained. This is an excellent cosmetic option for those who do not want the look of silver in their mouths. Although composite resins are cosmetically pleasing and easily placed, their durability is not as strong as other types of restorations such as onlays, veneers, and crowns.
Lumineers-Veneers
Of all the methods available today for changing and improving the look of your smile, veneers are among the most popular and successful with our patients. The treatment involves removing a small amount of tooth structure to allow the veneer a perfect fit on your tooth. Porcelain veneers are extremely thin casings of ceramic that are bonded to the front of your tooth to create a new smile. Some advantages of porcelain veneers over bonding include increased longevity and resistance to staining. Veneers can prove to be the perfect solution for patients with slight spacing, crooked, chipped, or discolored teeth.
Dental Implants
Dental Implants are becoming more popular in todays dental society for a number of reasons. Implants restore teeth where natural teeth are missing or have been extracted without involving the adjacent teeth. The implant is placed in the area of the missing tooth and will be left to osseointergrate with your existing bone for a period of 3-6 months. The next step in the process is to attach a custom abutment to the implant. The abutment will act like a tooth which will support the implant crown.
Root Canal
Root Canal is the process of removing the nerves from the roots of the tooth. Root canal is often necessary to save an infected tooth. If an infected tooth is left alone for a long period of time, an abscess can form. An abscess will show up on an x-ray as a dark spot below the apex of the tooth. This is actually bone loss in the jaw. It's very important to catch this problem before it deteriorates too far. Signs and Symptoms of moderate to severe include:
1) Lingering toothache pain when drinking hot or cold liquids or foods
2) Moderate to severe pain when biting down
3) Sensitivity to pressure on the tooth
4) A toothache that wakes you up at night
5) A pimple on your gum that may release pus and/or blood
6) Radiating pain from one area of your mouth to another
